Lucid Dreaming Tips
Sunflower SeedsSunflower seeds have the qualities of both producing melatonin and being salty. Melatonin is the hormone that helps us fall asleep faster, so we chose sunflower seeds to help us fall into REM cycle faster. We also chose sunflower seeds as opposed to another food because sunflower seeds are salty. After eating a lot of sunflower seeds, we hoped we would get thirsty and wake up in the middle of the night. We would then have water across our rooms so we would have to get out of bed and wake up a little.
The reason we wanted to wake up a little is because we needed to stay slightly conscious enough so we could realize we were dreaming in our sleep. |
90 Minute SleepingWhy 90 minutes? The sleeping cycle takes about 90 minutes to complete. The last stage of the sleeping cycle is REM (rapid eye movement). This is where most of our dreaming occurs. Because we wanted to remember our dreams we woke up every 90 minutes hoping to remember our last dream. It was also important that we woke up every 90 minutes so that we entered REM faster in the next sleep cycle.
We originally planned to follow this tip for a week however we then realized that it was helping us remember our dreams. I (Jenny) also managed to recognize I was in a dream at this time so we continued this tip for another week. |
Binaural BeatsThere is no scientific evidence to prove binaural beats help lucid dreaming however there is some evidence that suggest binaural beats indirectly help. The THETA wave associated with light sleep improved focus. Listening to THETA waves would indirectly help lucid dreaming by relaxing the dreamer quicker while still being conscious. We tried this tip out of a week, however we faced some challenges. Because most binaural beats are found on Youtube and Youtube doesn't allow the screen to be, our phones overheated. This meant that we didn't listen to binaural beats for our whole sleeping time.

MeditateMeditation is the best technique to raise your self-awareness. If you are able to raise your awareness high enough then you would be able to realize when you are in a dream. In theory meditation can help with lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming and meditating both involve these higher states of awareness can be up to 40 Hz in frequency. Meditating can also help remember dreams, stay calm inside the dream, and having more control over the dream. Because of this we tried this tip out for a week. Everyday, we would meditate for about 10 minutes right before we went to bed.
